Using the
latest in mobile GIS, habitats can be mapped faster and more accurately
than has ever been possible. Habitat mapping is carried out in accordance
with ‘Fossitt’s Guide to Habitats in Ireland’.
OPENFIELD uses a Trimble GeoXM hand-held computer with integrated
GPS (accuracy 1-3m) that is loaded with ArcPad software (a modified
version of ArcView).
The use of GIS not only allows the impact of a development to be
viewed graphically, but it is essential for quantifying impacts
where land use changes are predicted.
